How to Save a Video Posted on X (Twitter)

X's app has no built-in "save video" option for posts you don't own — you can bookmark a post to find it again later, but that keeps it inside the app rather than giving you a file on your device.
Getting the right link
Tap the share icon on the post (not the video itself) and choose "Copy link to post." That gives you the post's URL, which is what a downloader needs — a screenshot or a screen recording of the video playing is not the same thing and loses quality.
GIFs are actually short videos
Anything X labels as a "GIF" in a post is technically a short looping video file, not the older animated-GIF image format — it downloads the same way as any other video on the platform, just usually without sound.
Why quoted or reposted content can behave differently
A video quote-posted or reposted by someone else still belongs to the original post underneath it. Copying the link from the outer wrapper sometimes points to the wrong post — if a link doesn't resolve, opening the original post directly and copying its link instead usually fixes it.
Where to do it
The X downloader page works with both x.com and twitter.com links, since they point to the same posts.
