A Short is a regular YouTube video under 60 seconds shown in a vertical feed — nothing about the file itself is different from a normal upload, which means the same downloader that handles a full-length video handles a Short too.
Where the link actually comes from
Tap the share icon under a Short and choose "Copy link." YouTube gives Shorts their own URL pattern (youtube.com/shorts/...) rather than the usual watch?v= format, but both point to the same underlying video and both work the same way once pasted into a downloader.
Why the video sometimes looks cropped after downloading
Shorts are usually uploaded in a vertical 9:16 frame to begin with, so what downloads is exactly that vertical video — it isn't being cropped by the download process. If a Short looks unexpectedly narrow, that's how the creator uploaded it, not something the download changed.
Quality options
Shorts get the same resolution treatment as regular uploads — creators who upload at a higher source resolution give you more quality options to pick from; a Short filmed and uploaded at a lower resolution won't have a higher one to offer no matter which tool is used.
